girl receiving many gifts

Who doesn’t want to find the perfect gift for their friend?

Gift-giving can be a pretty tricky task sometimes. A lot trickier than it needs to be.

The thing is, your overthinker friend needs a gift that they will enjoy and appreciate and that will serve them somehow. That’s why it’s important for you to put a little bit of thought into this.

Look, I LOOVE gifts (giving and receiving them)! So this is something I take very seriously.

For me, there’s no feeling like carefully planning a unique, personalized present for my friend, giving it to them and watching their face light up with genuine excitement and gratitude. It’s one of the best feelings in the world!

But it’s the worst thing to invest in a present for someone only to find out that they didn’t like it and have actually never used it.

So when you choose a gift, remember that this is your chance to make your friend feel happy and loved.

So here are 14 unique gift ideas for your friend who thinks way too much. These gift ideas can be adapted to any occasion whether that’s a birthday, graduation, Christmas or just as a friend appreciation gift. They also feature options for all budgets.

1. Treat them to a nice dinner out

If your friend is a foodie, you could invite them out for a nice meal. This is a great present idea to celebrate a birthday, graduation or other major life milestone. Take some time to think about the kind of food your friend likes and see how you could tailor the experience to their taste (pun intended!)

This is even better if it’s with a friend that you haven’t seen in a while as it will give you guys the chance to catch up and share stories while sharing a meal together. A nice dinner out is also a great opportunity for them to de-stress by enjoying some food and connecting with a friend.

And after all, who doesn’t love free food?!

2. Book a massage for them…

You can also book your friend a massage therapy session (or one that they can redeem whenever they want). This will be the perfect opportunity for them to unwind and relax.

3. …or a full spa experience

Or better yet…why not treat them to a full-day spa experience? You can plan to take them to one of those day spas that include everything from massages to mani/pedis and facials. This is a pricier option but it’s a guaranteed fun day of relaxation for you and your friend.

4. Get them a cute notebook

In my opinion, a cute little notebook is one of the best presents you can give a friend because it can be used for so many different things.

They can use it to doodle in if they are into drawing. They could also use it as a journal to write down their thoughts and reflections. Or, they can also use it as a planner to write down their to-do lists and important dates so they can stay organized.

5. Get them a coloring book

Coloring is an amazing activity for overthinkers because it helps us improve focus and concentration while having fun and being creative.

It’s a great way for adults to not take themselves too seriously and act like a kid again. So consider gifting your friend a simple adult coloring book or one that is personalized with interesting and motivational quotes. Here is the one I am currently using!

6. Get them some affirmation cards

This cute box of affirmations is another interesting and unique gift idea, especially for friends who struggle with anxiety.

Reciting affirmations daily can really help to reduce stress and improve your mood by reducing negative thought patterns and encouraging you to have a more positive outlook on life. An alternative to this is an inspirational book with a positive quote or affirmation for each day of the year.

7. A lock box for their phone

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

If your friend struggles with excessive phone usage (don’t we all these days?), get them this lock box. It’ll help them keep their phone at bay when they really need to focus on more important tasks and even at night when they should be sleeping instead of scrolling aimlessly on social media.

8. Get them some personal development books

Some people may think they’re cheesy but personal development books are a great gift idea for any friend. They are educational, they give you a nice dose of inspiration when you need it the most and they are just an overall fun read (depending on the author and their style of writing).

So consider what issues your friend may be dealing with and get them a book that provides advice on how to overcome these issues. If you have a friend who really struggles with self-doubt, procrastination or motivation, You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero and the 5-Second Rule by Mel Robbins are personal favorites of mine for these topics.

9. Plan a surprise trip for them (if you can afford it)

If you can afford it, why not plan a little getaway for you and your friend or just them?

Whisk them away to a foreign land (or small town an hour from where you live!) and embark on a fun little adventure! Travelling is the perfect opportunity to get a change of scenery and unwind. Also, if you travel with a friend, you also get the chance to have fun and create meaningful memories with them.

10. Get them a planner

For those of us who have a million things going on in our brains and can’t ever seem to get organized, a planner is another ideal gift option. You can even get some that come in various sizes and are personalized with interesting quotes, cute drawings and decorations.

11. Take them to a concert of their favorite artist

Find out if your friend’s favorite artist is performing soon in a city near you and grab some tickets for you and your friend! It will be a beautiful surprise and will give them something to look forward to aka a night of jamming to some dope music with their friend.

12. Get them some engraved jewelry (or anything else!)

You could also give your friend a simple bracelet or charm engraved with something meaningful to them. Depending on how much space you have, it could be their initials, a special date or a cute drawing. This is one of my favorites from this list because it is a simple object but the engraving makes this a very unique and personal present for a friend.

13. Get them any object with a funny overthinking-related quote

Why not get your friend a t-shirt or a cup with a quote that pokes fun at their overthinking habits? This is a funny, light-hearted gift idea that’s perfect for those who don’t always take things too seriously and have a great sense of humor.

14. Take them to a comedy show

Grab some tickets to a comedy show in your area and surprise your friend! This will guarantee an evening full of laughs, good vibes and positive memories to share with your friend. This is also a great way to cheer them up if they have been going through some tough times lately.

15. A gift card

If all else fails, you can always give them a simple yet very convenient gift card! That way, they can buy something they definitely want and you don’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll like your gift. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Final Thoughts

I hope you’ve found these gift ideas helpful. The main thing to remember when you choose a gift for your friend is to make it special and meaningful for them. So regardless of how much you’re able to spend, it’s the thought that counts!

Happy gifting!
