My bedroom is my sanctuary.
It’s where I got to literally escape the world.
In my bedroom, I don’t have to worry about other people and how they may or may not perceive me.
It’s my safe space.
I believe everyone should feel truly safe and at peace in their bedroom.
It should be the one place where you can fully express yourself and let your authenticity roam free.
And it should bring you peace. It should feel like coming home after a long day.
Over the years, I have come up with different ways to make my bedroom a truly cozy escape so I thought I’d share them in this article.
I hope these inspire you!
1. Keep positive reminders everywhere!
I strongly believe in the power of surrounding yourself with positive energy so I like to keep uplifting reminders dispersed throughout my room.
On my desk, I keep framed pictures of my favorite Bible verses and affirmations to remind me to enjoy the simple things in life and to not worry too much.
I also keep loads of pictures of my family and friends on my desk and on my walls because they help me stay grounded and happy.
So whatever items make you feel happy and at peace, make sure to have a few of those in your room!
2. Declutter and keep your space organized
I believe that a messy space equals a messy mind. That’s why you need to tidy up your room often!
Of course, everybody has different definitions of messy and tidy. And people tend to know their own mess so to speak so it may not be a problem.
But I’ve found that whenever there are clothes in random places, my bed is not made and my room is just cluttered, I just feel pretty unsettled inside.
So I highly advocate for a clean room. Whatever that looks like for you it’s up to you to determine, but the goal is to make your bedroom tidy enough that it doesn’t stress you out.
A great starting point is making your bed every morning! I’ve realized that even if the rest of my room is not as organized as it could be, if my bed is nicely made, that’s a win for me.
It makes me feel like I’ve done something right that day🤣 and it’s a great feeling coming back to a nice, tidy bed at the end of the day!
3. Proper temperature is key!
It’s important to maintain a nice temperature in your room all throughout the year.
You don’t want your room to feel like an oven or a freezer depending on the time of the year!
Of course, it depends on your preference. Personally I don’t like when my room is too cold or too hot.
For example, in the summer, I like to keep a fan on to keep a nice, cool temperature in my room. I also really like hearing the noise when I’m trying to fall asleep. Is it just me😂?
4. Include your favorite scents!
Why not add some cool scents in your room?
I’ve tried a few but this lavender candle is my go to! Lavender is known for its anxiety-relieving properties which is why I love anything with lavender in it.
I highly recommend this but of course experiment and figure out what you like. If you’re not a fan of candles, you can also use a plug in scent diffuser.
5. Let sunlight in!
Sunlight does wonders for your health because its ultraviolet rays help stimulate the production of vitamin D in your body. This helps improve your mood and regulate your circadian rhythm.
So, however you are able to, make sure your bedroom has access to lots of sunlight.
It works out great if you have big windows in your room like me but if you don’t, check out this article for simple ways to add more natural light to your room.
6. Pick the right color scheme for you
When setting up your bedroom, it’s very important to find the colors and theme that work for your personality and your style.
For instance, I like when things are colorful but not too flashy so I tend to lean more towards warm colors like red and orange in my room. I also try to balance it with some cute neutral colors as well.
I’m currently doing some re-decorating and I am going for a cute, slightly bohemian look for the furniture and deco. I think that theme could really bring that vibrant and happy feel I want my bedroom to have.
But if having a lot of colors is not really your thing, maybe you could go for a more neutral and minimalist look.
7. Play some music!
I’m a huge fan of music so I almost always have some playing in my room.
If you like to create playlists like me, you can organize them according to the vibe you’re going for and have them play on repeat. For example, you could have one for when you’re doing some homework and want some chill vibes AND another one for when you’re in a really good mood and want some upbeat songs to dance to.
When I’m getting ready for bed for example I like to wind down for the day by listening to some piano or violin instrumentals of popular songs.
You could use any speakers you can find. Personally, I use my Google Home speaker which I really like since it’s voice controlled.
8. Spruce it up with some LED lights
I’m so excited about these!!
I discovered them recently and I think they’re perfect to give your room a sometimes- mysterious, sometimes-cozy vibe!
Thanks to the different settings, you can set up lighting for literally every mood whether you want something subtle for the night to help you sleep or you’re having a sleepover with friends and you want to bring music and party vibes to your bedroom.
If you prefer a different lighting as well, that’s fine but this is one that works for me.
Your bedroom should be your safe space in your house! I hope these hacks have given you some inspiration to bring a bit more coziness and peace to your room!
