How to Create a Kickass Vision Board and Own The New Year!

I got started with vision boards about two years ago. At the time I knew about the concept but didn’t really care much for it. To be honest my lazy self thought it sounded like too much work.

But I kept hearing more and more people talking about their vision boards and how excited they were for them and something clicked in me.

I wanted to join in on the fun too.

SO I created my first vision board!

Now it has become something I look forward to doing every year!

(Speaking of….I need to get started on my 2025 one as well LOL).

Vision boarding is a very important aspect of my life now because it allows me to get my ideas, goals and dreams “onto paper” and visualize them.

It also helps that 90% of the things I put on my vision board last year actually ENDED UP HAPPENING!! As for the rest, it may not have happened YET but I learned things that will bring me closer to making it happen which is still a win for me. Also the year isn’t over yet!

My mind was blown because even when I created my first vision board, I didn’t actually think too much about how the goals on it were actually going to happen. But that’s the beauty of it!

According to science, vision boards are so powerful because they could help rewire your brain thanks to constantly viewing your goals and dreams in a tangible manner. This in turn primes you to pay more attention to resources and opportunities around you to help you achieve those goals (even if you wouldn’t have noticed them before).

So have I sold you on vision boards yet? Yes? No? Maybe?

Here are 5 personal questions for you to keep in mind when you create your vision board for 2025 so you can absolutely crush the new year!

1. What are my dreams for the next year?

You don’t need to have a perfectly clear cut image in your mind.

But think about what feels right and exciting to you regardless of whether or not you know how to make it happen.

Would you like to start your own business?

Would you love to take a solo trip in Europe?

What would you do if you didn’t have any limits and a positive outcome was guaranteed?

I’ll be honest, I’m also struggling to dream these days. A lot of unexpected events have happened in recent years and they’ve beaten me down a little bit. So I’m also re-learning how to do this.

A dream of mine (I have a bunch)  is to make a good living from my writing (dream career a reality) so I can work from anywhere, not be restricted and be able to spend as much time as I want with my friends and family. I would also love to be able to take a gap year of sorts after some seriously stressful last few years.

But I just graduated in a completely different field, have other obstacles and life feels very confusing right now so I’m not too sure how to make that happen.

But you know what? That doesn’t matter because the whole point of this is to give yourself permission to dream again.

Even if you don’t know how to make it happen (yet!), putting it out there is the first step in actually validating that dream. So many of us keep our dreams to ourselves, ignore them or tell ourselves that they’re stupid and could never happen so much we never even try to make them a reality.

But you don’t want to have regrets in life no?

Your dreams deserve your attention. And the way to do that is by learning to articulate them, getting comfy speaking about them and getting them out of your head before you can start to figure out how to make them a reality.

2. How can I let go of control?

You know what your dreams are and got them out on your vision board?

Good.

Now forget about them! Well kind of.

Not completely but forget about how you’re going to make them happen. Let go of control and surrender to the process.

I read this book by Jen Sincero (badass way to make more money and she talks about how when trying to manifest more money into your life it’s important to stay open to any way that it might happen even if it’s something you would have never imagined. “Let’s be honest, that’s probably how it’s going to happen”.

I’m not saying speak about them and sit with your arms crossed and do absolutely nothing. It’s okay to take some action but just don’t stress about it like your life depends on it because stress operates from a vibration of lack which will definitely push your dreams away-link to something.

That’s why when it comes to my dreams, (personally) I like to just put them in God’s hands. I ask Him to give me the resources/know-how needed to work towards my dreams and I leave the logistics in His hands.

For instance, last year I really wanted to be a guest on a podcast. I always thought it would be really fun to have a conversation with someone on interesting topics and exchange ideas. But I had no idea how to make that happen.

Regardless, at the start of the year, I put it on my vision board (a pic of a microphone!) and spoke about it all the time as if it was obviously going to happen. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to sit down and have a conversation with the host of that podcast (still had no idea how btw).

Around April, the host of a podcast I started listening earlier in the year DMed me and asked to interview me!!!

See what I mean? Put your dreams out there and trust that things will work themselves out at the right time.

3. What would I like to achieve?

So when preparing your vision board, besides your dreams, you also want to think about your goals which I believe are more tangible than dreams.

For example, maybe you want to start walking for 30 minutes every day or you want to finish the manuscript for your first book by the end of the year.

As you start to think about realistic and sustainable ways to achieve your goals, having small reminders on your vision board will help to remind you of those goals set earlier in the year.

I mean let’s be honest, many of us will forget about our “goals” before the 3rd month.

This also helps to keep you motivated because if something was important enough to be put on your vision board, it’s worthy of your attention and you need to make achieving that goal a priority.

4. How can I make this fun?

Like I mentioned earlier, creating your vision board should be fun, not stressful.

It shouldn’t feel like a task.

At first I didn’t want to make a vision board because I didn’t want to have to purchase a board, print a bunch of pictures and put them together. That sounded hella tedious to me (still kinda does tbh).

However, ever since I discovered Canva and their vision board templates, it’s made the whole process so much easier. Now,  I have a picture of my vision board saved on my phone that I can look at whenever I want. If you want to go that route, you could also save it as your screensaver.

It’s about romanticizing the process of preparing yourself for the next year and getting yourself pumped up and excited for it!
